Tralee Quarry Project
ARDG’s Tralee Quarry Project is located on the rural property ‘Tralee’ at Sapphire, approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Inverell, in the NSW Northern Tablelands.
During late 2016, ARDG successfully negotiated a joint venture agreement with Tim and Beth Moses, the owners of ‘Tralee’, with the key objective of developing a quarry on the property to support the construction of the adjacent Sapphire Wind Farm Project (SWFP). The SWFP is NSW’s largest wind farm project and construction of the project is being managed by Zenviron Pty Ltd.
The geology of the quarry site is dominated by variably altered and weathered rhyolite, that forms part of the Permian-age (272.3 Ma to 252.17 Ma) Emmaville Volcanics. ARDG has extensively drilled and tested the geology of the proposed quarry site and confirmed that is ideally suited to the production of stable, high quality road base material.
The quarry development application was approved by Inverell Shire Council (DA-45/2017) on 23 May 2017 for extraction and processing of up to 30,000 m3 of material per annum. Environment Protection Licence (EPL) No. 20943 was issued by NSW Environment Protection Agency on 9 June 2017. A second development application was approved by Council (DA-93/2017) on 19 September 2017. This allows for the extraction and processing of up to 42,000 m3 of material per annum.
Initial development of the quarry during July and August 2017 was undertaken under licence by Daracon Group, with the material used for the construction of the internal wind farm access roads. The site was subsequently rehabilitated and the EPL surrendered in mid-2018.
